Our work - Case Study

Culina Logistics
Culina Logistics is the leading provider of high quality logistics services for food and drink companies in the UK. Part of the Mđller group, Culina's client list includes leading manufacturers such as Coca Cola Enterprises, Danone, Ferrero and Kraft.
The UK company employs 1,300 people and operates from a nationwide network of eight distribution centres with warehousing capacity exceeding one million square feet and a vehicle fleet of 250 tractors and 550 trailers.
Intunet's involvement with the company now called Culina in the UK began in 1998 when we were commissioned to create the corporate web site and online branding for Baylis, a warehousing and distribution company that was merged with Culina Logistics in late 2007.
Since then, Intunet has provided solutions designed to streamline every aspect of the business' ambient operations. By working closely with our client throughout project lifecycles, we have ensured that our solutions match the specific requirements of a sector leading business.
Intunet created the business' intranet and customer-facing extranet, and continues to develop a wide range of reporting tools and bespoke applications; examples include a fleet vehicle tracking system, and innovative Proof of Delivery (POD) system that replaces paper transactions with digital images delivered direct to the customer.
We also provide database installation and maintenance, and systems support; our work includes the provision of replicated servers for high performance and failover systems, development of backup and disaster recovery solutions, and database performance enhancements through stored procedure development and query optimization.
Our client-facing project management and request tracking tools provide the business with full visibility from initial specifications through to delivery and ongoing support.
The end result has been marked, quantifiable improvements in productivity and bottom line profitability for both our customer and our customer's customers.
Commenting on our POD solution:
"This project will give us a ROI of at least 50% in year 1, with 100% year on year in the future, and that's just on human resources. Additional spin-offs are speed of information delivery to customers leading to instant invoicing, a reduction in postage costs and a saving on the space that paper records require."
On Intunet's contribution to the business:
"Intunet provide us with cutting-edge technology solutions to visualise, manage and present essential information to our customers and staff, with the added benefit of a powerful data store. All the information is delivered through web interfaces that are designed to be user-friendly on any PC or Thin Client whatever the browser.
Intunet have created tools that present data in exactly the way that you would expect to find it. If you see a clue to what information you are seeking, the information will be there.
This ease of use extends to our customers via the extranet site, which means that there is no difference of interpretation of information between us and them, and they don't have to call us with queries because the system just works. That saves time and money for all of us.
One of our Directors describes the Intunet information delivery as 'intuitive navigation'".
